Briefly about Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg is a city in Lower Saxony, situated on the River Aller. People mostly know it as being the headquarters of Volkswagen. The city itself is very young and was built especially for the people working in Volkswagen factories in 1938. During the Second World War though, the factories were used for more ominous reasons, such as producing military equipment, jeeps and airplanes for the army.

When the war was over the town was renamed to the present Wolfsburg, getting its name after the Wolfburg castle. The original castle was built somewhere in the 1300s but nowadays a later castle from 1600s stands there.

Though not many historical buildings adorn the town it has other major attractions making it worth a visit.
