Briefly about Wilhelmshaven

Wilhelmshaven is a port town in Lower Saxony. The town has an interesting history which began in the 14th century when the Sibetsburg castle stood on the site. It was owned by pirates though and was therefore quickly destroyed. The town was founded some four centuries later as a naval base for Prussia. Only after the end of Second World War was the harbour used for commercial and tourist purposes and not just for military.
