Briefly about Walsrode

Walsrode is situated in the district of Soltau-Fallingbostel in Lower Saxony. The city was mentioned for the first time in the 10th century and was granted a town charter in the 14th. The town has suffered destruction by men and fire alike, but was rebuilt each time.

Walsrode is also the birthplace of the sculptor Hans Brüggemann, whom created the famous Altar of Schleswig Cathedral. The poet Hermann Löns visited the town and liked it so much, he was buried there in 1935, or better said reburied as he died some 20 years before.

All in all Walsrode is a charming town and worth a visit if you are traveling through the Soltau-Fallingbostel district.
