Waiblingen is the capital of the Rems-Murr district, located in the center of the Stuttgart Region. It is situated directly beside Sttutgart itself.

It was originally the property of Salian kings, but later the Hohenstaufen dukes and kings inherited it from them. A theory speculates that Ghibelline, the Italian name of the Hohenstaufen party, derived from the city's name of Waiblingen.
