Briefly about Tonsberg
Tønsberg is a town and municipality in Vestfold county. The town boasts the title of being the oldest town in Norway as it was probably founded before the year 871, when the Battle of Hafrsfjord took place.
North of the city looms the magnificent Slottsfjellet or the Castle Mountain in English, which is a majestic natural fortress. It was fortified in the 12th century. Later the Tønsberg Fortress was built in the town by King Haakon Haakonson. Tønsberg was ravished by fire in the 16th century, but remained an important harbour nevertheless. The town is well worth a visit if you are traveling around the area.
