Briefly about Tatabanya

The area of the town of Tatabánya was inhabited since the Stone Age according to archaeological findings. There were three historic predecessor settlements, Alsógalla, Felsőgalla and Bánhida which later, in the 20th century, united with the village of Tatabánya and took its name. The population of the villages really started to grow in the 18th century, when coal resources were discovered in the area and after the Second World War, when industrialization swept across the country, the villages united into one town.
