Briefly about Motala

Motala is the seat of Motala Municipality in Östergötland County. The town is located on the shore of Lake Vättern. The town has a long and rich history and therefore boasts quite a few noteworthy sights.

It evolved as a village around the 13th century Motala Church and remained relatively small throughout the years. When the Göta Canal was built at the beginning of the 19th century it gained importance and grew into a town. Baltzar von Platen, who built the canal, is buried in Motala by the canal itself.
