Empoli is situated some 30 kilometers from Florence in the beautiful setting of Tuscany. It's famous for its agriculture, even giving the name to a local variety of artichoke. Beside its agricultural products, it's also known for some interesting historic sights. Start your tour at the hearth of the town, Piazza dei Leoni, where the Collegiata di Sant'Andrea is. This beautiful old church,with some very fine works of art inside, is the city's main attraction. Also stroll to the Pallazo Ghibellino, which was the seat of Ghibelline parliament in the 13th century. Today sadly little of the original building exists as it was restored in the 16th century, but it's still worth a look.
