Briefly about Eindhoven

Eindhoven was mentioned in written documents for the first time in 1232. At that time Eindhoven was still a small town, situated on the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. There were some 170 houses surrounded by city walls and a small castle outside the walls. Later fortifications were strengthened and a new castle was built inside the city walls in the 15th century. It was plundered and destroyed by fires in later years and didn't really become a part of the Netherlands until the 17th century.
